My priorities

What drives me — because it matters to McPhillips

I have knocked on a lot of doors and had a lot of conversations. These are the things people here raise with me again and again.

Healthcare That Works

Shorter waits, staff who are supported, and care people can actually get close to home.

Almost every conversation at the door comes back to healthcare — waiting rooms, staffing, and finding a family doctor. McPhillips deserves a representative who will push for the people and the infrastructure that keep care close to home, and who will look past short-term fixes to the reasons the pressure keeps building.

Safer Communities

Feeling safe on your own street, walking to the bus, or letting your kids play out front.

Safety is the issue I hear about most after healthcare. That means proper support and resources for police and first responders in the short term, and real work on addictions, housing and mental health so we are addressing the causes rather than only the symptoms.

Affordability

Making a paycheque stretch far enough to cover groceries, rent and the bills.

Families in McPhillips are working just as hard as ever and finding the same dollar covers less. I want to keep pressure on the cost of living for households here — looking for practical relief that does not come at the expense of the services Manitobans rely on.

Strong Schools

Classrooms and teachers with what they need to give kids a real start.

Education is how a community grows its own opportunity. I will keep talking with the teachers, educational assistants and parents in McPhillips about what is actually missing in their classrooms, and carry that to the Legislature rather than assuming I already know the answer.

Roads & Getting Around

Streets, sidewalks and transit that hold up through a Winnipeg winter.

Someone tells me about a road that needs fixing almost every day. Provincial highways and city streets fall to different levels of government — my job is to be the voice that gets the worst stretches in McPhillips named, prioritized and put in front of whoever can actually fix them.

Investing in Our Community

Draft copy — needs Serena's input

Community centres, parks and local groups that give this area its character.

The rinks, halls, parks and volunteer groups here are what make McPhillips feel like a neighbourhood instead of an address. There is provincial grant funding available for exactly this kind of work, and I intend to work with community members to make sure our share of it lands here.

Is there something I've missed?

This list comes from listening, and it isn't finished. If something matters to you and it isn't here, I'd genuinely like to hear about it.
